REACHING OUT TO GOD'S PEOPLE
BREADBASKET FOOD PANTRY
Every Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 - 3:00 we have a food pantry for people in need. The Breadbasket is in the Parish House which is right behind the church on the corner of Persons and Chambers Streets.
Because the need has diminished considerably where we have delivered food for several years, we have suspended this ministry while we look for a new way to serve.
Each week during the school year we pack up sacks of food to take to one of the elementary schools in Cleburne. The food is distributed to children who may not have enough food to eat over the weekend. We currently prepare 80 sacks a week.
Around the first of October, St. Mark becomes The Pumpkin Church Thousands of pounds of pumpkins are delivered and cover our front lawn. The proceeds from the sale of the pumpkins help fund the Breadbasket Food Pantry, God Squad and Snack Sacks. We also used the money to install a wheelchair ramp to make it easier for people to access our food pantry.
Since the 1981-82 school year, the Miriam Circle of the United Mehthodist Women have recognized students at Cleburne High School who have maintained a GPA of 3.4 or better. The first time that is achieved, the student receives an afghan. In subsquent years, the student receives a certificate. Students who achieve academic excellence all four years of high school are eligible to apply for a scholarship.
Before every home football game, we serve free hot dogs, soft drinks, chips and cookie to anyone who is hungry. It is a great time of fellowship before the game.
For over 50 years, the United Methodist men have been hosting a chili supper. Money raised from the supper helps send children to camp at Glen Lake Camp, the United Methodist Camp in Glen Rose, Texas.
VACATION BIBLE CHOOL
Each summer we have a week-long bible camp for children in elementary school. It is a great time of learning and fellowship. Each year we help children get to know Jesus better and we get to know him better too! This year's camp will be at 6 - 8:30 p.m. from July 7 - 11th.
